Total F.A.Q.s: 6
Q: Where do I put the layout code?
A: To put the layout code onto you xanga, you must: login into you account~on the left side, find the link that says look and feel~ click it~ go to~Header~ input your own head~ then a box should come up~ past the <u>ENTIRE</u> code in.
Q: Can I use the costum module on the look and feel page?
A: Sorry, but that's only for premium xanga users. There is a code though that can give you costum modules but that there's a down side. It erases you normal modules, so you don't have the look and feel, your subscriptions, basically all your important links. I'll put the code up soon. Comment if you have any questions cuz it's <i>very</i> tricky.
Q: Can I have you layout?
A: I'll be putting up my laayout soon.
Q: How do you make layouts?
A: A LOT of people are always wondering how people make xanga layouts. Making them isn't hard, as long as you hav Adobe photoshop and/or imageready, or jasc paintshop pro (PSP) or some other designing program. The hard part is coding it. I'll put a section up soon for the coding part, cuz depending on what you want, it'll be hard to get the results you're looking for.
Q: How do you get affiliates and other picturesand the scrollbar code, etc. into your posts? When I put the codes in, nothing happens but you see the whole code.
A: Yea, that used to happen to me. What you have to do is, at the top of your weblog entry, there's this little box and next to it, it says, edit html. Check the box. Your entry should then look like a bungh of html coding. Heres the confusing part. If you wrote al the normal text, not the codes, into you weblog entry BEFORE you you went to edit html, all the text will be there. There just might be some <br>'s or <p>'s. Just paste in your code and hit submit. it should work. The disadvantege of this, though, is that when you go to edit it again, all your cods and everything will be all jumbled up. If your still confused, just post a comment.
Q: How do you make layouts?
A:You don't know how many people go around asking that. It takes some time to make really good ones but if you wanna learn how to make basic ones, it'll be pretty easy. It would take me forever to cover everything so I'll tell you the most important thing to remember when you're making a layout. Be creative. I really don't feel like going into a whole tutorial about how to make layouts, so here are four stylesheets I use. The last one is MY OWN. Which means, it's not very commen. So if you use it, you don't have to give credit, just don't tell people that you made it up.
Regular Stylesheet
Costum Module Stylesheet
Info Box Stylesheet
No module or info box Stylesheet
Put this in costum header!
Put this in webstats!
Q: Can I still request? If so, how?
A: Yes, I am happy to say that I will still be able to take requests. Go to the homepage, and read the section under welcome.
Q: What is a jocker?
A: A lot of people are always wondering what a jocker is. Well, it's basically someone who takes someone else's layout, or icon or banner or whatever and says they did it themselves. You can also be considered a jocker if you use someone's premade layout, but then take off the link back to their site or basically take off any credit they put to themselves.
Q: I really like to make layouts, and I think I'm pretty good. I would really like to make a layouts site, but I don't know how. Can you help?
A: Making a layouts site is hard work. Some people like the whole idea of making a layouts website but don't take the time and effort in order to make the layouts. If you're seriously considering making one, I am putting up this section so I can help in whatever way I can. If this little tutorial helps you at all, please please please link back.
Part 1-->Getting started
The first thing you should do is pick a good catchy name. One that makes people really want to look at your site. Once you have a name picked out, think about the colors/theme you want the layout of your site to be. It should relate somehow to your name.
Part 2-->After the layout
Once you've picked out your name and made your layout, it's time to decide a few things. How many posts. As you probably know, xanga only shows the latest 5 posts, so I suggest you keep all of your information catagorized into 3-5 different themes. Some things you definetly want to put up are:
Post 5: Other sites and affiliates
Post 4: Layouts and any other graphics you want to provide
Post 3: F.A.Q.'s
Post 2: Rules and linking to your site
Post 1: Welcome or about and maybe an updates section.
Part 3-->Working with the posts
Once you've made all of youre posts, you're ready for the tricky part. To make a really good site, you should keep all of you information organized. What I do is, I keep a little notebook. If seperated it into all my sections, and when I get a new idea, I write it down so I don't forget it. Sure, this may seem like a hassle but it makes things a whole lot easier. If you're using some kind of HTML, remember to check Edit HTML, and then add it so that it works. You'll find though, that after you submit all of your content, and then go back to re-edit it, all of the information is jumbled up. That's the biggest reason why I moved my whole site to a freewebs website. Anyway, rather than taking such a drastic measure, you can edit all of your pages in notepad. Then when you're done, add it to your posts.
Part 4-->Linkage
One thing that's really fun to do is make a button for you website. In my case, I made about 10. Lol. When making your button, you should use colors or the theme that goes with your layout or site name.
Part 5-->Getting visitors
Out of all the parts, I think this is the hardest. No one wants to make layouts, only to realize that no one uses them, no matter how much you may like making a layout. So, inorder to get people to come to your site, there are a few things you can do.
a) Comment on all of your friend's xangas so they know that you have your own. That way, if they find a layout that they like, their friends will see that you made them check out your other layouts.
b) Comment on other layout sites.
c) Link back to other layout sites. But make sure you tell them.
Part 6-->Other tips/codes
Keep your site organized.
Keep your site balanced and color cooridinated. Make sure everything fits together and that the layout make sense with you site name.
Be specific about your rules and notices. Don't make things to confusing.
Keep it simple. Don't put so much content that your page takes forever to load.
